I purchased some rayon hand dyed fabric from Lisa Reber, of DippyDyes, a couple of years ago and finally got around to sewing a summer top using the Valerie Top pattern from Tessuti Fabrics.
Lisa dyed the fabric with a shibori like grid pattern running diagonally across the grain so I used that for the front panel. The Valerie Top pattern has some little gathers running horizontally near the side seam of both the the front and back. They are just enough to add a little ease to the body without a lot of bulk.
I actually made this nearly two months ago and only now got a chance to write a post about it. This top is my “go to” top, now that the really hot months of summer are upon us. The rayon has such a nice drape and it breathes, allowing me to go throughout my day in total comfort.
I chose to make the binding around the neckline and armholes show. The pattern has them sewn down without showing.
Here is a line drawing of the pattern and a couple more images found on the Tessuti website.
Don’t be alarmed at the $12 price tag for this pattern. It’s a digital pattern sold in Australian dollars which converts to $8.56 US dollars as you can see below.
It’s also not a huge pattern so you can easily print this out on your printer at home and tape the pieces together. This pattern was a win in my book!
