The Ruby top is actually very easy going tank from Tessuti Fabrics. As usual, I downloaded and printed out this simple pattern on my home printer and taped it together. There is the option to make a dress, as well. I made it once before with the cut away armholes and high neckline but it felt a little restrictive so this time I opted to to add an inch at the front fold and cut the neckline down just a little, maybe 1/2 an inch. I did take in the seams a bit under the arms to achieve a good fit.
I ordered a polyester crepe from fabric.com in navy, white and emerald print. I ordered a lining with it, as recommended in the fabric description but did not find it necessary to use it. 1.5 yards was plenty of fabric.
This top can be easily cut out and sewn in a matter of hours. We can’t get the Vilene interfacing that they have in Australia so i just used what I had, which was Pellon Shape Flex. I cut it away carefully before sewing on the binding.
This neckline has a keyhole back opening with a button and thread chain.
The style is flared at the hemline and makes the perfect floaty top for hot summer days.
This is a nice top for a walk in the park or a gathering in your back yard. It’s dressy but not form fitting and easy to adjust the fit here and there. Give it a try. I’d love to see what you make!
