Summer Top – Free Mini Course

Learn to sew this delightful cap sleeve summer top in no time flat. Choose a light cotton if you are a relative beginner or try a batik rayon if you're a little more experienced.

This is a McCall’s Pattern M7093 which you can pick up at JoAnn’s with a coupon or shop online on Amazon or Etsy.  Be sure to get the correct size for your measurements as there are two size ranges.

Measure yourself around your bust line, waist line, hips, and nape of neck to waist.  Write these measurements down.  Then choose the size range which fits best.  Pattern sizes have nothing to do with your dress size in ready made clothing!  Don’t be shocked if you end up having to make your garment in a much larger size than normal.  You may also be different sizes on different parts of your body.  That’s the wonderful thing about sewing!  You are going to make it fit you perfectly.

I used a batik rayon for this top and found it to be a little slippery when laying it out to cut.  I love the drape of rayon but it might be a little too frustrating if you are just a beginner.  Choose a light cotton or breezy linen to start.  Then you can choose a fabric with more drape the next time.  I bought 2 yards of 45″ wide fabric which would work for any of these larger sizes.

Check out links to pattern and fabric in the link section below.

I also wrote a blog post about this summer top here.

Let’s get going and have fun making this top with me!
